Hello, I’m Deborah. Thank you for taking an interest in my website. I truly hope it benefits you in some way.
So let me introduce myself. I’m a DipION certified nutritional therapist registered with mBANT and CNHC. And yes, I'm an Essex girl! Born and bred. I’ve had a keen interest in health and nutrition since my late twenties but I didn’t take the plunge into the bizz officially until after experiencing some health issues of my own. I spent my twenties travelling the globe and having amazing adventures, I have always been a very energetic, highly motivated person, always up for a challenge, whether it be the London marathon, jumping out of an airplane or climbing rather high mountains! I also liked to party and did my fair share, as we all do at that age!
So when I did get sick it was completely out of the blue and unexpected, I thought I was strong and healthy and could handle anything that came my way, Miss Invincible!! Not the case. After weeks of random immense pain, a few hospital trips and collapsing, scans were finally done and a rather large ovarian cyst was discovered with a tumour inside. Luckily for me a benign tumour but a big shock all the same. After surgery I discovered I had lost my right ovary, a bit of a surprise but I was so grateful that the tumour wasn’t malignant and that I still had one ovary left.
Something like this changes your view on life. You start to see things differently. I believe that I came to value my health so much more. It just shows you how life can seem to be all ok one moment and then the most precious thing you have can be taken from you the next. It could have been so different but luckily it wasn’t and I’m here and I’m alive and kicking! So my life's mission is to help others with their health. After my recovery I enrolled in a four year nutritional therapy course and here I am. Fully qualified and eager to help. Help YOU.
As I learned throughout the course it became apparent, by the stacks of scientifically proven evidence, just how powerful nutritional therapy and lifestyle medicine can be to support health and well being and, how important it is for this information to be shared. Shared with YOU.
Quality of life is wholly dependent on our health status and I strongly believe that the food we eat has an immense effect on our well-being. My goal as a nutritional therapist is to motivate you to take control of your health through simple-but-effective dietary and lifestyle adjustments that not only work towards achieving your goals but suit your preferences, budget and fit into your busy schedule. For me, eating nutritious food is a pleasure that should be enjoyed by everyone and I am more than happy to incorporate this into the lives of my clients.
Why am I so interested in brain health and energy production?
Vitality is closely intertwined with brain health and brain health is indeed my passion. I believe there are so many things our brains are capable of, parts that we don’t even use. It’s such an interesting area of health. If you don’t have a healthy brain how will everything else work? It’s our command centre. So I guess that makes me a bit of a brain and energy geek! I myself have struggled with low mood, stress, poor memory, fatigue and anxiety. These symptoms became apparent to me whilst studying for my nutrition qualification and with the knowledge I gained I was able to test, change my diet and add supplementation. For some time now I have felt that I am at the top of my game and in the perfect position to help others. I believe if someone is fortunate enough to make their passion their career then no doubt, they will do their very best for their clients.
As a Registered Nutritional Therapist, I am accredited by the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council http://www.cnhc.org.uk/ (CNHC), a government-sponsored registration body for complementary healthcare practitioners. The CNHC register has been approved as an accredited register by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care. The CNHC is a government-sponsored body dedicated to safeguarding the public by ensuring that all registered practitioners meet the National Occupational Standards for healthcare disciplines. A Nutritional Therapist can only display the CNHC quality mark if they have the appropriate level of training and competence. In order to retain the CNHC quality mark, Nutritional Therapists are required to update and develop their professional skills through an ongoing programme of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
I am also a registered member of the British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine (http://bant.org.uk) the professional body for Registered Nutritional Therapists. Its primary function is to assist its members in attaining the highest standards of integrity, knowledge, competence and professional practice, in order to protect the client’s interests, nutritional therapy and the Registered Nutritional Therapist.
I regularly attend training courses, lectures and webinars to keep my knowledge up-to-date with the latest developments in the field and to meet the requirements of continuing professional development, and I collaborate with other health professionals should another area of expertise be of benefit to the client.
